Washington D.C. - Chef José Andrés transformed his eight restaurants in Washington DC to community kitchens that distribute affordable meals to those in need. Chef José also gave meals to quarantined cruise passengers.
Santa Barbra, California - 17 year old Danny Goldberg was quarantined and watched his father go to the ER every morning despite the law of staying inside. He understood that elderly people had a higher risk of getting the virus, so he created a website called zoomerstoboomers.com . This website allows people who are more at risk to order groceries and get them delivered to their door. Danny’s friends agree to help him deliver and shop for their elderly neighbors. In the beginning it was only 20 orders a day. But then it jumped to 60 a day, and now they have 20+ cities involved, delivered to 3,000+ senior citizens, 300+ nationwide volunteers, and no delivery fee.
Washington - Tina St. John ordered takeout to support her local restaurants through DoorDash, but no one came to pick up her food. Instead of getting upset, she called the restaurant and told them that she will pay the price of the food and have the owner take home food for his family. She said to him that she was trying to support his restaurant and didn't need the food. However, he did not take no for an answer and delivered the food after the store closed. When she went to get the food, she saw sliced mango and rice in the shape of a flower with a note in the middle that said, “Thank you so much for your support." :)
