1. Puzzles
Let’s admit it, being home all day can be quite boring. It’s come to the point for most of us that we've been going on our phones even when we don't want to--only because we can't think of anything else to do. There are so many reasons why puzzles are the perfect way to pass time. First of all, there is no minimum or maximum amount of people who can contribute to doing a puzzle. So if your whole family wants to help you out, great! And if you want to do it by yourself, also great! Another great thing about doing puzzles is that they are a calming activity that could be done inside or out on your patio. However difficult you chose for your puzzle to be, it's a great way to pass time and makes for a beautiful display!
#2 Magic tricks
Have you ever been to a magic show and wished that you were the one who was able to do all these amazing tricks? Well now is the perfect time for practice, practice, practice! This is a fun hobby to have because magic can be done anywhere, whether it be sleight of hand, mind-reading, or card tricks, putting on a show for your family at home (or over zoom) has never been so fun!
#3 Friendship bracelets
So many designs, and SO MUCH TIME!! Friendship bracelet patterns are much easier than they seem. If you have a little patience you will end up with a colorful and stylish accessory. This is also a great activity to entertain your siblings if you're stuck babysitting:)
#4 Learn an instrument
Wouldn't we all love to walk out of quarantine as talented musicians? Now is your chance to annoy all of your family members with the sound of those drums sitting in the corner of your basement. Haha just kidding:) If you put your mind to it you can impress everyone around you--even your lovely neighbors! Music is a huge part of our culture and can be very helpful during these stressful times. I can't wait to come back to school next year and see everyone's inner musician shine!
#5 Meditation
Meditation is essential for our mental health and happiness; it should be part of our daily routine no matter how much or little time we have. With everything going on right now, things have been way more intense and stressful----which can have many negative effects, including poor sleep. “You should sit in meditation every day- unless you're too busy; then you should sit for an hour”-Dr. Sukhraj Dhillon. Meditation is for everyone. There isn't any right or wrong time to take a deep breath and relax.
#6 Spa day!
What's better than treating yourself to a day of pampering? (nothing:) ) There are so many ways to create the perfect spa day. First, start with a nice setting. Maybe go outside or turn on those fairy lights. Next, do your nails, style your hair, and do a face mask! Whatever your spa routine is, it’s the perfect way to boost your mood!
#7 Gardening
If this isn't already self-explanatory then I'll explain it. You get to be outside, add an extra touch of personality to your yard, and help the planet by planting literally anything. You can plant vegetables, trees, and flowers. It's so much fun to spend the day with nature! :)
#8 Reading
The best way to escape from the house but from the comfort of your own home! There are so many genres and good books out there if you give them a chance. Reading doesn't have to be just from a book, it can also be an audio-book. Whatever your preference, there is a perfect book out there for you!
#9 Calligraphy/handwriting
Calligraphy is a super cool hidden talent that isn't too hard to learn, and with a little practice you can impress all your friends. Working on your handwriting can improve your notes and make them aesthetically pleasing:)
#10 Cooking!!!
I think I can speak for all of us when I say I eat ten meals a day:) Why not learn how to cook like a professional? There are tons of recipes and combinations, so make each recipe your own! Maybe even do a family Chopped competition and see who in your family is a secret chef! Food is probably the best part of our day. Let's level up our game and see what we can cook with just a little bit of creativity and fun!
